In celebration of World Children’s Day on 1 October, the Government has declared a “Children’s Day National Week” from 25 September to 1 October, 2025.
The week-long initiative, themed “Aadarayen Surakinna – Apata Lowa Dinannata” ("Protect Us with Love – To Win the World"), will feature a series of national programs focused on promoting child welfare, protection, and empowerment.
Organized under the guidance of the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs, these events are aimed at raising public awareness and mobilizing support for children's rights.
The National Reading Month was declared in the year 2004. National Library and Documentation Services Board together with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and National Heritage declared the month of October as “National Reading Month” with the objectives of to give publicity to the published books among people and encourage/ motivate people to read books.
